Supa Stunna: Appalachan State Shocks Michigan

I saw the score and my jaw dropped.
Appalachan State 34 Michigan 32 Final

Damn

Though I have mass love for my alma mater Cincinnati, they are a mere neophyte in the world of college football. The Bearcats make headlines from time to time when they spring an upset on an unsuspecting ranked opponent. Wisconsin came in to Nippert Stadium in 1999 and were expected to thrash the Bearcats who were coming off a loss to then Div 1-AA Troy State. I was there to see a 17-12 upset by the Bearcats and watched as the masses tore the goalposts down and then marched them around the neighborhood.
The Bearcats were better last season but Rutgers was the highest ranked team to come into Nippert Stadium that late into the season. #7 Scarlet Knights got taken to the proverbial woodshed from the word go and the Bearcat fans poured onto the field again in joy as the Bearcats won 30-11. Again I was there to witness and I couldn't have been prouder.
The point of these antecdoes is that an overconfident team got ambushed on the road by a team with nothing to lose. This time Michigan got beat...at home...by a 1-AA team

Damn

The Wolverines had national title aspirations...

Those are gone...

Damn

Had Michigan made the last second field goal (that was blocked to seal the game) the Big Blue faithful would have grumbled heavily and been thankful to get away alive and Mountaineer fans would rue their chances. But the Mountaineers sprung the shocking, stunning upset in front of nearly 110,000 apoplectic Michigan Fans and countless others watching.

I'm rarely one that calls for someone's job...but Lloyd Carr has to go. 1997 National Championship be damned. That was so so long ago, and to not have your team ready for a game no matter what the opponent is inexcusable.

If the Wolverines win the rest of their games and beat Ohio State it'll take a lot of the sting out, but it will still be a black mark on what should have been a great season.

Damn.
