Torre, A-Rod deserve better from Jank-ees

My baseball homie, Jaime called me last night, chortling that the Jank-ees were about to be eliminated. He wished that he had "Sty-brenner's number to laugh at him" I mentioned that it might be the end of Joe Torre's tenure as Yankees manager and he got quiet.
"Torre good manager, best Jank-ee manager they ever had. He deserve better." He said soberly.
Now when an avowed Yankee hater gives dap like that, you know someone is respected. Joe Torre may be on his way out as the Yankee skipper and its a damn shame. He has won 1173 games in his 12 years and 4 World Series titles. Not bad for someone who was derided when he was hired as just another manager in Steinbrenner's skipper go-round. Torre provided stability and a quiet calm voice to the otherwise Bronx Zoo that the Yankees can be at times. I'm not a Yankee Fan at all, but like Jaime, I had a modicum of respect Joe Torre's quiet dignity and class. He wasn't a shirking violet to the occasionally raging Steinbrenner. He stood up to him and talked tough when needed. Players and opponents alike respected Torre as well.
Which makes the ranting by the increasingly impetous Steinbrenner all the more infuriating. I think that Torre did his best job managing this year managing this year, given the plethora of pitchers that he had to go through. Steinbrenner's win everyday every title mantra is in unrealistic but he owns the team and he makes the money. The funny thing is that despite having far and away the biggest payroll, the Yankees will go a seventh season without a World Series trophy and a fourth without even getting to the Fall Classic. Being able to pay the most money, does not guarantee the wins, Cleveland has proved that. In a short series anything can happen and Steinbrenner needs to realize that. Torre should be allowed to manage until he wants to step down, period.
In the same vein, one gets the feeling that Alex Rodriguez will catch the first thing smokin' out of the Bronx when he gets the opportunity. Though he had an MVP season and he cant really be faulted for the Yankees loss to the Indians in the ALDS (He hit 4-15 in the series) He will get blamed for another postseason flameout. He will opt out of his contract and likely go west. Can one see him in an Angels uniform next year??? He could very well go there and easily displace Orlando Cabrera at short and be in a more relaxed atomsphere and on a contender, also with Vladmir Guerrero and possibly Barry Bonds in the lineup as well he would be on an already strong team without the Bronx boo-birds to try to please. A-Rod like Torre deserves better from the Jank-ees.
Until next post, fellow Sports Fans!
