I'm conflicted. I have tickets to both the Ohio State-Michigan games and the UC-West Virginia games. The OSU-Michigan game is at Noon and the UC-West Virginia game is at 7:45. Its about a 4.5 hour trip from Ann Arbor to Cincinnati. Straight down US 23 to Interstate 75 and UC is 1.3 miles due east of the freeway on exit 3, and I have a parking pass. Do I take the chance of leaving Ann Arbor early or getting to the cozy confines of Nippert late. Or do I sell one of the ticket sets that I have? Keep in mind though I am a big Michigan fan, I am a UC grad and have faithfully toiled watching the Cats play in half empty 35,000 seat Nippert Stadium and now relish the biggest game in UC Football history or that OSU-Michigan game tickets at the Big House are rare to obtain. I knew I was gonna have this conflict when I got the tickets in August. I am glad though I held on to both sets, as if I decide to sell one set, it could fetch a nice price. Any input on this delicious dilemma is welcomed.
The BCS mess is getting to almost nightmarish proportions. At least for the honks wonks and apologists for The powers that be set up the deciding of a national champion and now are wringing their hands that the "desirable teams" are falling out of the mix. In a best case scenario, the pundits would love to have 2 undefeated teams preferably from big name, big money conferences with alumni that spend and travel. If the media had their way they would get Ohio State, Notre Dame, a deep south school, a heartland school like Texas or Oklahoma and either USC or UCLA to rotate through the national championship game with the other school. Anytime that a no-name school or a lesser known lightweight school like a Boise State gets close to national title contention they might gain entry to a BCS bowl but never ever the title game. But as it stands now, you have Kansas and Hawai’i
Like I’ve said before, a playoff system would be the only way to rectify this mess, because unlike what some of the wonks might tell you, this isn’t a once in a millenium thing that’s happening in the world of college football there fellow sports fans. The talent in college football is getting more and more spread around. Contrary to what wonks like no playoffs (see my entry from 10/23) want you to believe a playoff would only intensify the jockeying for these spots and make the regular season games even more meaningful. Whos to say that fighting to get into a conference title game with a playoff berth at stake would not carry drama? I’m not gonna get my blood pressure up about this again…
If you really want a debate, lets talk about the Heisman trophy vote. Some like the ubiquitous Tim Tebow who seems to defy logic with his skill at QB. Equally fun to watch is one Dennis Dixon of Oregon, and silky RB Darren McFadden has emerged yet again as a Heisman hopeful. You want me to handicap? I'll pass on giving you odds. But right now I'm leaning to Tebow only because he has gotten so much more pub. Though I'm fascinated with Dixon's playmaking ability. I'll be interested in seeing if either QB can make the jump to the pros, but that a different debate for another day.
The often talked about occasionally controversial Phat Dap/Head Slap will be posted tomorrow. Until Next Post Fellow Sports Fans!
