Forget what you might have heard Paris Hilton say, not like anyone reading this would really care. The Bandit is gonna tell you what's hot, in college football that is.
Okay its November and things are about to get tense.
Now, now I already hear some of you out there "Um, Bandito have you been sippin on that stuff again? Or have you been sleepin' the last 8 weeks? Things are already tense and hot in College Football."
Oh but my friends it is already tense and that tension is going to get thicker. With the warm weather rapidly fading away, except for yesterday the kids were sweating getting the candy I was giving out. But the month of November has some of the highest of high impact games on the docket. With conference titles, bowl and BCS berths on the line in many of these games the room for error has vanished. So i've decided to be your guide on some of the best matchups to watch. I'm not a phat slob like that clown Howie Schwab (If you haven't guessed I'm not a big fan of his) but instead I'll give you games to look for on the college scene this weekend and I'll continue to do so for the rest of the college season. And better still I'll give you the reasons why you should watch them. Come on now, I'm not dumb enough to try to predict the outcomes.
Not listed here as games to watch but good ones to note nonetheless is Kansas taking on Nebraska and trying to stay unbeaten this late in season for the first time in 100 years (I cant make these facts up); Navy who has its best shot at beating Notre Dame for the first time in 43 years. (The Irish have scored 79 points all season, Navy and Delaware scored more in their game last week) Cincy at South Florida a game featuring two teams who are both fighting to stay relavant in the Big East and national picture and Mizzou taking on Colorado in Boulder and seeking its best start in over 30 years. But take note of the following game to watch and/or keep tabs on.
#12 Michigan (7-2) at Michigan State (5-4)
Spartan Stadium; East Lansing, MI 3:30 (ABC)
Fast Fact: 100th meeting between these archrivals.
Why You Should Watch: That embarrasing loss to App. St is far in the rearview mirror for the Wolverines as they have been on a roll, shaking off nagging injuries to Chad Henne and Mike Hart to win seven in a row. (And that loss to Oregon even at home doesn't look so bad.) The Spartans are a dangerous team having had lost their meetings to ranked teams by a total of ten points. Michigan can win this game but the Spartans would love to deep six their Big 10 title hopes.
#13 UConn (7-1) vs Rutgers (5-3)
Rentschler Field , East Hartford, CT 7:15 (ESPNU)
Fast Fact: Highest ranking UConn has ever had and have never started 8-1
Why You Should Watch: This is a chance for you to see a team no one wants to deal with UConn was a 1AA team seven years ago. Now they are threating to upset the order of the Big East. They will get a true test of their tough defense as they try to contain Ray Rice who has had good games against the Huskies. Though win or lose, they will learn how bad it is to come to Nippert Stadium next week to be the hunted.
#1 Ohio State (9-0) vs #21 Wisconsin (7-2)
Ohio Stadium, Columbus Noon (ESPN)
Fast Fact: The Bucks have won 19 conference games in a row
Why You Should Watch: The Bucks late season gauntlet continues as a tough Wisconsin team comes a callin'. The Badgers have won four straight in Columbus, but may be without the services of PJ Hill. The Bucks looked chillingly crisp and efficent in blasting Penn State and if they control the ball like they did in that game it could be tough go for the Badgers.
#3 LSU at #17 Alabama
Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa AL 5:00 (CBS)
Fast Fact: The Tide have lost four straight to the Bayou Bengals.
Why You Should Watch: Hmmm, why should you watch this one? The Tigers are itching to get after their former coach whom they let go to the pros with good wishes and blessings only to see him come back to coach and archrival. Tide QB John Parker Wilson has had a breakout of sorts his last two games throwing for over 600 yards and 3 scores. While LSU comes in after a bye and a thrilling 30-24 win over Auburn. The stakes are especially high as the winner has control of the SEC West but contrary to what my homegirl loriebamafan might tell you, this isn't even the weeks best matchup...
#4 Arizona State (8-0) at #5 Oregon (7-1) Bandits 5-Star Matchup
Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR 6:40 (ESPN)
Fast Fact: Both teams are enjoying their highest rankings since their last respective Pac-10 and Rose Bowl runs (Az. St in 96 and Oregon in 01)
Why You should watch: This is the weeks best matchup. If you haven't had a chance to see Dennis Dixon play, get past the Ducks hideous day-glo unis and take this opportunity to check out a good west coast based team. Dixon engineered the Ducks win over USC last week and is the leader of a high powered high scoring offense that electrfies scoreboards at 43 point clip. The Sun Devils aren't offensive challenged scoring 36.9 points a game but they also have a ball-hawking big play defense that only gives up a PAC-10 best 15.6 points a game. Somethings gotta give and you can bet that the crazy crowd in Eugene will be at full throat.
Now that ya know, get that clicker thumb in shape and to quote a local news reporter/anchorwoman "Thats what's hot (in college football) rrrrright now!" Until Next Post Fellow Sports Fans!
